Located in a Prewar Shop House (actually a house) along Nagore Road, (Not too far from New World Park) is a "Branch" of the Famose Fatty Loh Chicken Rice, which is operated by one of the Sons of the Original Fatty Loh. It's Seems there is 3 of this Branch in Penang.
Some 30 plus years back, Fatty Loh Chicken rice, was located at a Shack, and the corner of Fettes Roads, and Jalan Tanjung Tokong. It was one of My family favorite eating spots, as it has one of the best chicken rice in town.
Once the shop close (due to a complex being built there), the 3 brothers split up (I think) each operated their own Fatty Loh Chicken Rice Shop!
Well I drop by at this branch, and had lunch here, Not Bad, still among the top chicken rice, but somehow i still prefer the chicken at the Fettes Road Outlet. However the Service here is much better.
Its a family tradition that if we drive past Ipoh, State of Perak Capital, (those ancient days with out the north south highway) it's a must to stop for a meal of the Famous Ipoh Koey Teow Soup. Now having my own kids, I am trying to keep to that tradition.
Passing by Ipoh, in the early evening, on the way down from Cameron Highlands, we stop in Ipoh for a early dinner, for Ipoh Famous Bean Sprout Chicken, instead of the Ipoh Koey Teow soup as the Kopi tiam serving that is close at Night.
Thanks to Garmin XT installed in my Nokia 5800, I manage to locate the famous Lou Wong Taugeh Ayam shop at Jalau Yau Tet Shin, N04,35,640 E 101,05,058, the most popular of the 3 Beansprout co-located at this road junction. Unfortunately it was close, so we just when to the other shop.
We order 1/2 a chicken, 1 small beansprouts, 1 Fish ball soup, 3 rice, 2 bowl of koey teow, 2 longan drink, and 3 plain water, total damage came to RM41.
Wife love the koey teow, super smooth, I found the rice a just tad under cook, The Chicken was nicely cook, but (being Kampong Chicken?) a bit on the hard side. The Bean Sprout was perfectly cook, crunchy!
Just opposite here, there is also a shop selling the Famous Ipoh Salt Bake Chicken. As you can see in the above photo there is suppose to be a Pasar Malam that night at this location (Man setting up his tent), but unfortunate due to bad weather arriving (see the black clouds) we have to leave.
Road side Lime Stone Hills
Ipoh is famous for its Crunchy Beansprouts, Smooth Koey Teow, Salt Bake Chicken and also I heard Fish Noodles (Actual noodles make with mince fish). Its also famous for Chinese Temples in Lime Stone Hills. Am Planning to Visit. It will all depend on timing! Juggleling the schedule of 3 children is not a joke.
With all the limestone hill around and practically right at the roadside, Ipoh have the potential to be "Haven" for Rock Climbing in Peninsular Malaysia. Anyway that is not my decision to make. Bye.

Birds being sold to be release! Not a good Idea to Me! In the frist place the birds will not be caught if no one purchase them!
Some time I just wonder why people will travel a long distance for good food when better food is available right at their door steps? In Penang Island right at the the Ferry Jetty is this quaint little restaurant that give 5 star restaurant a good fight for their money in terms of taste.
Weld Quay Tree Shade Restaurant is a non halal restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner, except for Wednesdays. I am ashame to say as a Penanite, that I was introduce to this restaurant by a KL boy. I will not provide a GPS Location, as this place is very easy to find, Go to the Penang Ferry Jetty and look on the other side of the road, you will find this place. Parking is easy, Park just infront of the Penang Kastam Office.
The Restaurant is set up, with the kitchen right infront and you will have a small passage way to walk past the Tree, the kitchen to the back where the seating is located. Business and the food here is good enough for them to have another "lot" for extra seating.
Ordering here is easy with all the Food Displayed right infront of your eyes when you walk in. Point and say how you will like to have it done.
We arrive quite late for lunch 2pm plus, it was quite but the verity of food avaliable is still there. We order 4 items, and it was serve very fast with total bill comming up to less then RM40/- .
Starter of Papodoms with a dip of curry gravy
Deep Fried Black Promfret with Bean Gravy
Sotong Kong Po
Curry Prawns
"Sa Lo Ma" Vegetable with sambal belachan
Now a word of warning, for those that are use to "high class" and "proper" restaurants, you should give this place a miss. this Restaurant is Clean, but there are those that are very "Fussy" don give this a try.
Their theory hinges on the Chinese Written Language, which in their web site, is noted as the oldest and continuous written language in the world and was first written over 4500 years ago.To understand their theory, you have to know that each Chinese character is a word by itself and certain more complex characters are actually made by combined from other simple characters.
One example given is the Chinese Word for Elder Brother is combined from the character for Mouth and Man, with the explanation that the Elder Brother is usually the spoke person for the family.Ie a Man that speaks.
Back to the theory - Remember the Tower of Babel in the Bible?Where the Bible god, created different languages and make the people move apart? The Point given is that this happenaround 5000 years ago, and the division was 500 years before the Chinese language was found to be first written, and there fore certain characters were influence by this Great Happening and from the Bible.
Hence due to this division in language the Chinese migrated from Babylon, ie Move or Walk, after the Division to the West of Babylon, It is then stated that the Chinese Character for Migrate, consists of the following characters – Great, Division, West, Walk.
More example are given, one that struck me is on the Garden of Eden, that a place of Happiness and Blessing Right?.They claim that the Chinese Character for Happiness and Blessing consists of: God, One, Man, Garden. Then they further claim that the word West (ie where Babylon is in relation to China) consist of the character: One, Person, Enclose Garden.Put together the characters of West and Woman, you will get the character Desire or To Want,String it all out you will get One, Person, Enclose Garden, Woman,You just might get the story of Adam and Eve.
I do not know how to read Mandarin, so i do not know what they explain is true.Would anyone care to comment? and if the above is true is this too much coincidence?, Again 1421 theory come in to mind. If this theory is right?,well I am loss for words.
This night eatery is in the ground floor of a 5 story building, hence it very imaginative name of Restaurant Five “Floors”.It is located at the Jalan Sg Daun area of Nibong Tebal Town, and is right at the Night Market “Street” every Sunday.I will usually have my dinner here just before walking it off at the Night Market which stretch around 500 meters
This Kopi Tiam offer a verity of food, however what good here is the Nibong Tebal Koey Teow which in my opinion is just about as good at the one in Nibong Tebal Town (link) which is only open during lunch time. Here and There is exactly the same with various pork spare parts, meat and skin,Yummy.
Next is the Hokkian Char KL Style,For this visit I am disappointed as the normal chilli is not serve, however the thick round rice noodles in darksauce with pork fat crotons, vegetables and meat did not disappoint .Frankly speaking you will be hard press to find this dish in Penang though its very common in KL.Asking for this dish in Penang will get you the Penang Style of Fried Hokkian Mee.
Char Koey Teow here is usually also not bad when compared with Penang. Not this trip though,Must be due to the New Year Season.
For those passing by on Sunday this is a excellent place to dine on some good food and to go for a walk,it’s the highlight of the week for the folks here anyway. For those who cannot make it for Lunch Koey Teow Th’ng you now have a second choice There is a Fun Fair going on next to the Kopi Tiam currently that why I am jumping que on my postings.

On the final day of my Chinese New Year leave (2nd day of Chinese New Year),I decided to drop by at the Penang Buddhist Association with my family.I have not been here for a long time.I had vague memories of this place in my childhood where my mother use to drop by to pay the monthly dues for her Mother and Father. These dues were some sort of “savings” or “insurance” for future funeral expenses if i was not mistaken.

I surf the Internet for some sort of information on this place, other than maps, there were not much information other then 2 websites which I have listed out below.

"The Penang Buddhist Association building along Anson Road, was founded by a group of Straits Chinese Buddhists who desired to study Buddhism in its pure form, uncorrupted by elements of Taoism that is prevalent among the local Chinese. The association was founded in 1925. The present structure was completed in 1931 in the late Straits Eclectic style."
the Building
Lit up interior
"Instead of the typical colourful design of most Chinese temples, this one show Art Deco influences and looks like a frosted cake, all white and pastel. Interior Buddha figures are carved from Italian marble, and glass chandeliers hang above."
"The interior is ornately decorated with polished floor titles, multi-tiered chandeliers’, and mother-of-pearl inlaid furnishing. The high-vaulted main hall houses several statues of the various incarnation of Buddha."
"Penang's Buddhist community gathers here on Wesak Day (April/May) to celebrate the triple holy-day of the Buddha's birthday, attainment of enlightenment and death."
This Unique Building is off the usual Penang Tourist Routes or information centers and its mainly visited by locals only, It is worth a visit, especially if you visit the Padang Brown Food Centre which is just on the other side of the road, which cater to all the races in Malaysia.
