Go Cart Race in Penang After 30 years, Visit Penang 2010 – 2012

Go Cart Race in Penang After 30 years, Visit Penang 2010 – 2012

@snapshots

There was a Go Cart Race in Penang around the Esplanade during the first week end 12th -14th March of the school holidays. As I understand it this the first Go Cart Race in Penang after 30 years. With the race there was a food bazaar as well as an Ms Umbrella Contest.

A very commendable effort by the tourism people in organizing this race. Fact is I am old enough to remember that the following were orgenise in Penang, Scout Car Race, Go Kart Race, Motobike Race and even Car Races a long time ago. Will all these event be making a comeback soon in Penang?. A Festival of Speed so to speak

On going right now in Penang is the Penang Orchid Festival located at the New Food Stalls of the Botanical Gardens 9pm to 7pm (will try to make it as I do not have any Orchid Festival this Friday) and the Penang Floral Festival will be held on the November 27th to 5th Dec 2010

After this will be the The Siddhartha Musical Show, for those who do not know what is Siddhartha (I am one of them)– The Musical is essentially an Eastern story re-told and presented in Western musical style. Gathering a cast of award-winning actors and dancers, the musical also features a powerful and touching music score, combining classical, new-age and ethnic elements, dynamic and captivating dance choreography, vibrantly coloured stage design and lavish costumes coupled with advanced animation effects, Siddhartha artistic and entertainment value.

The Penang Bridge International Marathon which will be held on the 21 Nov 2010 for more information go here (inclusive of registration for the event)

Other upcoming events can be found here.

Panoramic View of George Town, Penang

My 1st Post of 2010.

A Panoramic View, created very simply by taking 4 photos and joining them up in Excel, and then using the sniping tool to cut out the appropriate part! A very crude method, but it works to a certain extend for those who do not have the tools.

The above Panoramic View is taken from from the Octagon Pavilion (Bronze Kuan Yin), Kek Lok Si, Penang, View of George Town

Pasar Pagi / Morning Market

Pasar Pagi / Morning Market @ snapshots

Coordinates: N 05.13.471 E 100.29.897

Pasar Malam is the supermarket for low income earners and for the village (Kampong) Folks, what do the traders do in the day time?

Well there is also pasar pagi, and every Thuesday morning at Sungai Bakap, some of the traders set up shop at the compound of Sungai Bakap Temple (at the Laksa Shack location - http://malaysiansnapshots2.blogspot.com/2009/01/sg-bakap-temple-laksa-shack.html)

It’s not so busy, smaller, thus easier to find things, but you do not get the large amount of traders, but I do find it better then heading into Valdor Pasar Malam to purchase items.

you will find all the usual things at a Pasar malam, Groceries, cloths, toys and many more

One of the Best Curry Mee in Penang, New Cathay Coffee Shop at Pulau Tikus

@ snapshots

This off day we decided not to have our usual breakfast but head towards Pulau Tikus for the New Cathay Coffee Shop which is located just opposite belle view plaza and the Pulau Tikus Church (Catholic - Immaculate Conception built in1810? )

Curry Mee

I have been feeling the need of a spot of Good Curry Mee, and frankly I feel that the best curry mee in Penang is located at this coffee shop which is located at the junction of Jalan Kuching and Jalan Burma.

Wat Tan Hor Fun

What good in particular at this coffee house here is the Curry Mee (of course Penang Style), Wan Tan Mee (one of those seller who will only want to sell only to their specification, but its good, Hor fun, Chee Chong Fun. Most of the stalls offer better food then most other places.
