This is Penang, George Town - Weld Quay Area - China Stree Ghat

Refurbish Buildings of Yesteryears, China Street Ghat

China Street Ghat (or Ghaut/Gat ) as my father explain to me years ago, means that it's the extension / or reclaim land part of China Street. This two "heritage" buildings were built on reclaim land.

This building currently houses the State Headquarters of the Malaysian Kastams. Notice the Clock Tower at the back of the building. Close up Below. Formerly it was the Penang Island office of the Malaysian Railway. You can purchase railway tickets here before proceeding to Butterworth (via the ferry) to take the train. In 1960 this building was handed over to the kastam.

This building is believe to be the only railway building in the world that is with out a rail, instead of platform it house the administrative office, and a restaurant

On the other side of the road is another refurbish Heritage building current names as Wisma Yeap Chor Ee

There are plans to turn this building into a 20 room heritage boutique hotel.
