Malaysia to have Digital TV in 6 years time

@snapshots

According to this Bernama report (Full report here). “KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- In less than six years, Malaysia's broadcasting field would comprise entirely of digital transmission instead that of analogue at present.”

That may partially explain why TV prices are dropping like rocks, I recently say a branded TV 21 inch being advertise for less than RM300, even LCD screen TV’s are dropping with the lowest price 32 inch LCD at below RM1700.

The report further stated that you can still use your old TV, with a (price around RM250) digital decoder,(which to me is just like buying a new TV). The upside of this is there will be “more Free on Air TV Stations”, “Better Visuals”, “No Electronic Interruptions” among others. It is also reported there will be “19 DIGITAL TV CHANNELS BY 2012”.

Well, 6 years is still a long time down the road. I don’t know if my current TV’s can last till that time, if in the event I have to replace one of my current TV’s, I will have to keep this in mind.
